GAKKO Project Meeting: Making tasty juice
Hi everyone!
Today’s blog is written by Yoko, a project staff of Loftwork.
On July 31st, one of the most interesting meetings was held in Fabcafe.
GAKKO project had come to Japan, and FabCafe turned into a global meeting space with 20 students from American top universities.
So, what’s GAKKO project??
GAKKO project aims at having a summer camp that inspires Japanese high school students to reexamine their education in the context of their own unique goals and motivations. The Gakko project was launched by Kenta Koga, a Japanese student of Yale university and now it has 12 student members from Yale and Harvard. It was held at the Benesse house in Naojima from August 4th to 9th, and they stopped by FabCafe before they headed for Naoshima.

Today, at the FabaCafe, they did a rehearsal of team-building game which they planed to do with the high school students at Naoshima. I had a chance to join the game and it was soooo fun!
The game is called “Making juice!!! ” The rule is quite simple:
1. Participants are separated in different groups.
2. The teams make mix juices by using a variety of fruits and vegetables with a juicer.
3. A judge will decide which team’s juice is the best! (Today, Toshi, the FabCafe COO was assigned to a judge)
So how did it go?
One team mixed banana, ginger, yogurt, and pine, and made juice.
“Hmm…. nice, but ginger was too much??”

The other team mixed peaches, pineapples, blue berries, and yogurt made of soy milk.
“Great!! but it needs more sweetness and thickness, doesn’t it?”
“Ok, let’s add some bananas!”
“Well, where on the earth are bananas?”
“….who knows? ”
Funnily, it turned out that one team ate all the bananas after they used for the juice!!
Kenta, the master of game, had to have them get another banana.
After the incident, the team managed to add some bananas, and each team made final adjustments to their juice.
“Perfect! Our juice can be served as a new menu in FabCafe!”
Both teams had a great self confidence and were pretty sure that it’s their team that should win!!

Finally, Toshi made the final judge.
The winner was………..
“The ginger&banana juice team!!!!!”
According to Toshi, the reasons for the victory were:
“The peach mixed juice was also terrific but too nomal. The ginger juice was unique and can be better for health”
Yes, never forget that Toshi is the COO of FabCafe, which means he always looks for unique original tastes and cares about the customers’ health
All in all, making juice was a great ice braking game since it allows us to use our five senses and help communicate with the others.
As you can see in the pic above, I could get along with them very well although it was our first meeting.
Thank you GAKKO project for stopping by the cafe. We wish your success in the program!
